The merger between British Airways and Iberia became effective today, the airlines said.

The new entity will be known as International Consolidated Airlines Group, S.A. (IAG) and has been registered at the Madrid Mercantile Registry.

The company said that it expected British Airways shares on the Official List to be cancelled on 24 January 2011 and then replaced by IAG shares. The shares will be tradable on the London Stock Exchange and at the Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Valencia stock exchanges.
