A British man is due to appear in court over the brutal killing of his wife in Mallorca, who was found strangled to death with a mobile phone cord.

Warren Lyttle, 50, who has been living with his wife Jane, 49, on the popular tourist island for more than 10 years, is currently being held for questioning over her death. They have a 19-year-old daughter Ann-Marie.

Mr Lyttle was arrested on suspicion of murder and is expected to appear in court tomorrow or on Monday, according to reports in The Mirror.

Emergency services attended a flat in the resort of Calviá at 3.20am on Saturday morning after receiving a call from a man reportedly confessing to killing his wife. Police said she received strangulation marks on her neck, and paramedics tried to save her for an hour, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "Following the death of a British national in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, we are in contact with the local authorities and are providing support to the family at this difficult time."

The island is reportedly in shock at the news of her murder.
