American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars will reportedly perform at halftime show of Super Bowl XLVIII in February.

A person familiar with the National Football League's plans told The Associated Press that the 27-year-old Grammy-winner has been chosen for the job. Though no official announcement had been made, the confirmation is expected to come at an event in New York's Times Square on Sunday.

However, an NFL spokesman jokingly told the Los Angeles Times that both Janet Jackson and Miley Cyrus have been ruled out as performers.

Last year, Beyoncé had performed at the New Orleans Superdome during the NFL clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens in front of 76,500 people. She was briefly joined on stage by former Destiny Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. In 2012, Madonna put on an elaborate show which featured extravagant costumes and a backup crew including Nicki Minaj and MIA. She smashed ratings records when more than 112.5 million TV viewers tuned in to watch.

Fans took to Twitter to react on the news that Mars will perform during the halftime show.

"@sslater3690 Just heard @BrunoMars might be performing at the Super Bowl. If this Is true I have just deemed this the best Super Bowl yet!"
