Five students were stabbed at the University of California in the morning of Wednesday (4 November). The suspect has been shot by police and succumbed to fatal injuries soon after.

The incident took place at the university's Merced campus. Two of the victims were transported to a local hospital by helicopter, while the other three people were treated on campus. None are said to be in a life-threatening condition and all of them are conscious.

A spokesperson for the university confirmed all classes had been cancelled for the day and the campus was closed.
