Scarlet Witch started out as one of the baddies who sided with Ultron in Avengers 2, but eventually she joined the good guys and became a member of The Avengers. Now, the character will face a similar conflict in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War where she plays a "wild card" who does not necessarily side with one particular team of warring superheroes.

In a recent interview with USA Today, actress Elizabeth Olsen explained that she enjoys portraying a character who "can play both sides." According to the actress, the film will show Scarlet Witch "coming into her own and starting to understand and have conflict with how she wants to use her abilities."

"It's a dramatic conflict within her and obviously there's conflict within the [Avengers] as well," Olsen stated. The actress also revealed that the recently released promo art for the film, in a way, teased this 'wild card' nature of her role by excluding her completely. "I like that they didn't release Scarlet Witch in the promo photos for the teams -- it places her as being a wild card, and I like her having that kind of edge that people don't know what she's capable of. They can fear her because she is so incredibly powerful in a different way than the rest of the heroes for the most part. I like playing that role within the gang."
