Cesc Fabregas
Manchester United are refusing to give up on Cesc Fabregas.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that Manchester United desperately need someone like Cesc Fabregas in the summer to rejuvenate their squad.

The former Arsenal man is reported to have been put on sale by Barcelona and is attracting interest from his former club, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United.

The midfielder was among the best playmakers to ply his trade in the Premier League but has lost his way a bit since transferring to Barcelona in 2011.

Arsenal are unlikely to be interested given that they have a series of players in the same mould with Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil all capable of playing that role behind the striker.

Fabregas would be a surplus to their requirement and Arsene Wenger has therefore lined his attention towards securing a striker and a defensive midfielder to bolster his team.

The Gunners had a lot of injury worries to tackle last season, with Ramsey and Theo Walcott all out for major parts, scuppering their title charge.

Wenger is looking to address those pressing concerns and end their quest for the league title in over a decade.

Meanwhile, United are looking for a midfielder to replace Paul Scholes and Cascarino believes that Fabregas is the perfect man to take over that job.

"Manchester United desperately need someone like Fabregas. They need someone to replace Paul Scholes. Michael Carrick is fantastic on the ball but Cesc just gives you a little bit more," Cascarino said.

"He's 27 years old now and has been in and out of the team at Barcelona. He's not cemented a place in that side. He should be playing week in and week out," he added.

United are expected to face competition from Chelsea, who are looking to bring in a player to replace Juan Mata, who joined the red devils in January.
