Police have released footage of a "callous" hit-and-run driver in a collision with a 14-year-old girl after which she was left lying injured in the middle of the road. Hanna Jones was thrown three metres in the air by the car in Wise Lane, West Drayton. She sustained a hip fracture and faces a year of physiotherapy.

Detectives have now released CCTV footage capturing the incident, which happened at about 8.30pm on 27 November, in a bid to find the driver and the vehicle involved. It shows the girl, who had just disembarked from a bus, being hit by what police believe is a silver hatchback travelling westbound.

After being hurled across the road, a bystander rushes to her aid and appears to shout after the car, which sped off in an unknown direction.

The girl was taken to a hospital in Hillingdon where she underwent an operation to her hip, and treatment for shoulder and leg injuries. She has now been discharged. Her mother, Michelle, said the incident had ruined her daughter's upcoming birthday on Christmas Day.

PC Tom Fowles said: "There is no doubt that the driver will have known instantly that they had caused significant injuries to a pedestrian having struck them in such a way. This driver can rectify the sheer disregard they showed at the time and now do the right thing in coming forward to speak to us.

"It's likely that the bonnet of their car would have been visibly damaged and we are appealing to anyone who has seen this damage to a silver hatchback which is not properly accounted for, to speak to us. We are also keen to speak to anyone else who witnessed the incident.

"Hanna is showing immense bravery in dealing with her injuries and intensive physiotherapy. Christmas Day also falls on Hanna's 15th birthday and her mother Michelle has told me that this driver's callous actions have ruined her daughter's special day."
