The Blues were almost close to another Premier League win but the glory evaded them due to an avoidable error from their own goalkeeper just two minutes from time at the DW Stadium on Saturday night.

Wigan Athletic have effectively denied André Villas-Boas' side another victory through the strategic intervention of Jordi Gomez on 88 minutes. Petr Cech clearly fumbled at this point but Villas-Boas refused to blame his goalkeeper and said that it was a collective fault. The game ended 1-1, costing Chelsea two valuable points in the title race.

The highlight of the match was Daniel Sturridge's brilliant finish on 59 minutes. The right wing carefully romped home a timely pass from Ashley Cole marking his ninth goal of the season.
