Cesc Fabregas
Fabregas is tipping Ozil to succeed.

Mesut Ozil is the perfect fit for Arsenal according to Barcelona midfielder and former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas.

Ozil joined from Real Madrid for a club record fee on deadline day to cap an encouraging end to a difficult summer for the north Londoners.

The German international scored 16 goals and made 35 assists for club and country last season and gives Arsenal a significant boost in their attempts to qualify for the Champions League ahead of big-spending rivals Tottenham Hotspur, and Fabregas is expecting big things.

"Spectacular," Fabregas said. "His style is nailed on for Arsenal.

"It's a league with a lot more spaces and he is a player that, with [such] spaces, can kill you.

"We have seen it with Real Madrid. He has a brilliant final ball and in the Premier he will enjoy it a lot."

Arsenal fans will be hoping Ozil can enjoy similar success to that of Fabregas, a player very much in the mould of the former Werder Bremen schemer, during his time in the Premier League.

The addition of Ozil came after Arsenal missed out on a number of high-profile transfer targets including Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain during the summer window, with Arsene Wenger preparing to start the season with just Yaya Sanogo and Matthieu Flamini as the only new arrivals.

But Ozil's signing has salvaged Arsenal's summer and international team-mate Per Mertesacker has hailed the addition.

"I know him quite well. We spent two years together at Werder Bremen so I think that Arsene Wenger will get the best out of him," Mertesacker said.

"I think he will fit in. He suits us and we're really looking forward to playing with him and to be his team-mate.

"We were patient all the time on the transfer market. Mr Wenger said always that he was on the market but nothing happened.

"I could feel that something happened at the end of the transfer window. So I really appreciate that transfer."
