Chad has imposed a ban on full face veils following two suicide bomb attacks on 15 June, which saw 34 people killed and more than 100 injured.

Accusing militants of using the veil as a "camouflage", Prime Minister Kalzeube Pahimi Deubet said the ban applied to the use of full face veils everywhere and not just public places.

Security forces will burn all full face veils sold in markets, he said, according to the BBC.

The full-face veil was also banned in May in public places in Congo-Brazzaville in a bid to counter terrorism.

The Chad government blames the Nigerian militant Islamist group Boko Haram for the two suicide bombing incidents. Attackers on motorcycles blew themselves up outside two police buildings in the capital.

Muslims make up the majority of the population in Chat and the burka is worn mainly for religious reasons but it also helps protect women from the hot, dusty climate of the Sahara, BBC said.
