Chelsea defender Ashley Cole is being linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, according to Spanish reports.

Cole, whose contract runs out on 30 June, has lost his place at Stamford Bridge this season, as Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has opted to play Cesar Azpilicueta - even though the Spaniard usually plays on the opposite flank.

Reports suggest Cole will run down his contract and then move as a free agent over the summer.

According to El Confidencial, Cole's agent Jonathan Barnett has offered the player to Real general manager Jose Angel Sanchez, and Los Blancos are likely to conclude the deal as long as Cole recovers his fitness and form.

Although Cole is 33, the fact that he would be available without a transfer fee appears to make him an attractive option for Sanchez.

However the exit of Manchester United target Fabio Coentrao is an essential prerequisite to Cole's departure. Manchester United boss David Moyes has already tried to lure the 25-year-old and he may make another move this summer.

Sources in Madrid suggest Real are also monitoring Sevilla starlet Alberto Moreno, as they seek a replacement for Coentrao.

Cole has played 20 official matches this season, 13 in the Premier League, and England boss Roy Hodgson may does not select him for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
