Chelsea striker Diego Costa may miss the Arsenal clash after suffering a bruised tibia during their 3-3 draw against Everton at Stamford Bridge. The Blues make a trip to the Emirates as they take on their cross town rivals in the upcoming Premier League encounter on 24 January.

The Brazil-born Spain international scored the opening goal for his side against the Merseyside club and picked up an injury following a tackle from Leighton Baines. Guus Hiddink had to turn his attention to Loic Remy as he replaced Costa in the 80th minute.

The Mirror reported the west London club's striker was taken to hospital for a scan, which showed just bruising and no fracture. Despite this, the former Atletico Madrid striker could be doubtful for the tie against the Gunners.

Following Chelsea's latest draw against Everton, Guus Hiddink has given his players two days' rest. However, Costa has been asked to report for treatment at Chelsea's training base in Surrey. The coach revealed the front man suffered a painful injury and is hoping for his striker to make a quick return.

"He's in hospital and they will check with a scan. We don't know the results yet, I hope it's not too bad. It's on his shin. We hope Diego will come out of the hospital in good health. He was in a lot of pain," Chelsea boss told the club's official website.

Apart from the 27-year-old, Chelsea have the services of Remy and Radamel Falcao. The striker is on a season-long loan from AS Monaco and has not featured since October due to injury. Hiddink admitted that the Colombian international will be on the sidelines.

Costa, who had a disappointing season until Jose Mourinho was in charge, has found his goal scoring form. He netted five times in his last five appearances since the departure of the former Real Madrid manager from the club in December.

If the Chelsea star striker is unavailable for the clash against Arsenal, the Dutchman will be left with Remy as the only fit striker in the squad. His absence will be a massive boost for Arsenal for the next fixture, as they look to bounce back following a disappointing 0-0 draw to Stoke City.
