New Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has revealed that he had a host of offers before clinching a move to Stamford Bridge because of the presence of Jose Mourinho factor.

Matic confirmed his move to the Blues on Wednesday and will make a return to the Blues after he was part of the deal which saw David Luiz move to Stamford Bridge in 2011.

The deal has cost Chelsea £21m to re-sign a player who left the club only three years ago and the 25 year old revealed that they were facing competition from a number of sides in their pursuit of his signature.

"I had other offers from different clubs," he told Benfica TV. "But Mourinho is Mourinho. It was difficult to turn him down."

Matic's assertion that Mourinho was the driving force behind his decision to head back to West London shows just how much pull the manager has over possible additions with his reputation in winning titles and Champions League medals speaking for itself.

And the Portuguese tactician has given his stamp of approval to Matic, saying that he will be coming back to Chelsea a different player to the one whom the side felt was worth giving up in the pursuit of Luiz.

"I am very pleased that Nemanja is returning to Chelsea," the manager explained.

"He has grown as a player in Portugal and has become a fantastic all-round midfielder. I am sure he will become a very important member of the squad and help us to achieve our ambitions."

Matic makes the move to Chelsea at a particularly important time for the side, with the Blues currently sitting second in the table and just two points away from leaders Arsenal.

With just over four months of the season left this season having more options in the middle of the park, and ones that suit Mourinho's style of play, will certainly help the side in their push for a title in the manager's first season back at Stamford Bridge.
