Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has backed teammate Diego Costa to go on a goalscoring run following his match-winning performance against Arsenal on 24 January. The 27-year-old Spain international scored the only goal of the game at the Emirates Stadium and the 'keeper thinks it could inspire a return to form for Costa.

The former Atletico Madrid star has been strongly linked with a move back to his former club this season, as he has failed to recapture the form that catapulted the Blues to the Premier League title under Jose Mourinho. But Courtois has backed his teammate to continue to thrive in the colours of Chelsea.

"We knew that when he scored a few goals again he would go on and score more, and I think he has confidence," the 23-year-old told the Chelsea website. "He's a top striker and he will score more goals for us, this was a big one."

The Belgian also admitted he was delighted to have beaten their cross-city rivals Arsenal and hopes the confidence-boosting victory will instigate a good run of form for Chelsea.

"It was very satisfying. Arsenal are doing very well this season and it was a difficult game. It's a London derby as well so for the supporters it's massive and it was a good result," the Chelsea goalkeeper said. "You need to win these games. I hope this will give us a confidence boost, we have the FA Cup on Sunday and the Champions League is coming up as well."

Chelsea face Milton Keynes Dons in the FA Cup on 30 January and Paris Saint-Germain in the last-16 round of the Champions League in February.
