A two-year-old boy in China has "given birth" to his twin, who was growing in his stomach.

Xiao Feng was suffering from breathing difficulties and his abdomen was swollen when he was admitted to hospital, reports the Inquisitr.

A film of the boy was uploaded by a Chinese media outlet and shows a scan of the boy's stomach, with the dead twin inside.

He was rushed to surgery to have the foetus removed. Doctors found the parasitic twin took up as much as two-thirds of Feng's stomach and would have killed him if left untreated.

The removed foetus measured around 10 inches in width and was fully formed in terms of its spine and limbs. It also had fingers and toes.

The case is known as cryptodidymus, or conjoined twins, and is extremely rare. It occurs when the egg fails to fully separate.

A similar case was reported in Peru last year, when a three-year-old boy was found to have a parasitic twin living inside him.

Like Fent, Isbac Pacunda had an extremely swollen abdomen and was surgically removed. Doctors said the foetus had eyes, bones and hair, but had not developed a brain, lungs, heart or intestines.

Carlos Astocondor, one of the doctors at Las Mercedes Hospital, said the condition occurs in around one in every 500,000 live births.
