At least 50 people have been killed, 150 people injured and more than 20,000 homes have been destroyed after a series of earthquakes, measuring 5.6 on the Richter Scale, struck Southwestern China, according to state-run media.

This dramatic footage shows the dazed, walking wounded by the roadside, seconds before aftershocks triggered a landslide, which sent boulders flying the hills, narrowly missing them. Then eerie quiet and red dust everywhere. The quake hit the Yunnan province, tearing 6.1 miles into the ground, and local press said 100,000 people have been evacuated from the region.

Locals used Weibo, a Chinese social network similar to Twitter, to describe how they ran out of shaking office buildings, seen here, as the ground shook, following the earthquakes. Local officials said teams had been sent to distribute tents and blankets to those affected.
