Video footage of Chinese soldiers playing "hot potato" with a live grenade have gone viral on social media.

People's Liberation Army soldiers are shown participating in a dangerous game of passing around a live grenade before it explodes - as part of their training.

Based in Hong Kong, the troops face an intense training programme. Part of that training, meant to hone courage and precision, involves the hot potato game.

In it, the soldiers stand around a hole and each of them takes the grenade in both hands and hands it to the next soldier. The last soldier to hold it must make sure it falls into the hole as they all leap for safety, covering their heads, and the grenade explodes.
