The first picture of the gunman who killed 22-year-old American singerChristina Grimmie has emerged. The killer, identified as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl, allegedly walked into a concert venue in Florida armed with two handguns and a knife before shooting dead Grimmie on Friday (10 June).

Police chief John Mina said the gunman, who had no previous criminal record, "travelled to Orlando to commit this crime" and had planned to go back to the city after carrying out the shooting.

Loibl killed himself as Grimmie's brother tackled him. No one else was hurt during the shooting.

Loibl has been described as a "deranged fan". It is believed he acted alone as police are still investigating on the possible motive behind the murder. Detectives will meet Grimmie's parents in order to establish any possible connection between the singer and the attacker. No motive has yet been officially revealed.

Grimmie was shot at about 22:45 local time as she was signing autographs. Eyewitnesses reported hearing three shots as the gunman opened fire in front of 60 teenagers.

Grimmie was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Centre in a critical condition. At 2.45am her publicist issued a statement confirming The Voice singer had died from her injuries. "It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn't survive the gunshot wounds," read the statement.
