The small seaside town of Clacton is set to be the scene of a historic breakthrough for the UK Independence Party. After local Conservative MP Douglas Carswell defected to the purple party and stood down from his seat, a by-election now places him as front-runner to be re-elected, but this time on the Ukip ticket.
