Heating Oil

Windy City Trader Trade Tip

The April Heating oil is currently trading near 322. This market has been very overbought technically and this is not even accounting for warmer US temperatures. It appears that major support is seen first at 310, then 302. A few weeks ago I recommended an option strangle for crude oil and sold the April $125 call and at the same time sold the $85 put.

Windy City Trader Trade Tip Natural Gas calls 1/26/2012

We still have 40 days until expiration for this call option. April natural gas has held the 260 level for the past 2 weeks and another bullish stocks report this morning has pushed it back to 272. I would like to continue this trade with a slight modification.

Jan 29th- The Long Term Bull Market E Wave Count

I have to be honest that I am grappling with a few possible counts since the March 2009 Bull market commenced in terms of the big picture. With Elliott Wave Analysis, you have to anticipate, monitor, and then adjust. Most of the time I go with my instinct and then only adjust if it looks like I was way off the tracks.

Daily Natural Gas April

Windy City Trader Trade Tip Natural Gas calls 1/26/2012

For the past 3-4 weeks I have been discussing the fact that natural gas recently pushed below a ten year low. Natural gas obviously is used in the heating and cooling industry as well as fuel for diesel trucks. We recently pushed to 2.20 for Feb. futures and 2.42 for April futures. This week saw a mini revival as futures advanced 50 cents in 2 ½ session with April gas pushing to 2.94 this morning.

Chart Orange Juice

Windy City Trader Trade Tip 1/10/2012 Orange Juice put option

For the past few months orange juice wallowed between 165 and 180. A cold front which has filtered Down to Florida has sparked a speculative drive higher from 178 to 207 in TWO sessions. There has been no major damage to date and most groves report no damage. This may be the textbook, "Buy the rumor, sell the fact" market.

February Hogs

Windy City trader Trade Tip 12/13/2011 February Hogs

Despite a stabilizing cash market and improving demand, hogs have fallen nearly 7 cents since early December. February futures recently tested major support between 8500 and 8550 and have advanced to 8660 as of this writing. Add this to a market which is very oversold with stochastics readings near 7 % and we have the makings for a strong run higher.

How to Trade This Headline Driven Stock Market

With all eyes on the unemployment report and Europe, the CME Group's PR Department nearly created an all out panic with their announcement after the market close on Friday relating to futures maintenance margin. The original statement was vague and I was quite concerned until I checked out the CME Group's web-page and the PR Department sent an update clarifying their position.

January Orange Juice

Windy City Trader Trade Tip 10/25/2012

About two weeks ago January orange juice was trading at 15500 and three weeks ago made it to Below 14700. Nothing has changed but the price. As January 2012 juice has moved to 17500. The 16000 puts can be had for 150-160 points. Each point for the juice contract is $1.50 so the 160 Put which was well into the money just weeks ago would cost about $250.
