It seems like Apple can do no wrong, because the firm’s reported pre-orders for its new iPhone 5 have topped a mammoth 2 million in just 24 hours. The figures are all the more astounding when you realise that figure is DOUBLE the record for its predecessor, the 4S model. And tech analysts reckon it’ll be the most popular smartphone ever, breaking all previous sales records.
"iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we've ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do." So says Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior VP of Worldwide Marketing. Well, he would, wouldn’t he? The phone’s popularity in Britain could be put down to the fact that it’ll have 4G connectivity – the new superfast broadband, which we haven’t got in Britain at the moment, but which is coming soon. All the Apple fans who’ve pre-ordered should get them this Friday.
And it’s likely to be a rosy Christmas for the tech giant because analysts from IDC say they expect Apple to sell up to 51 million iPhone 5s between now and when Santa arrives. That’s around more than half a million sales each day. But with 20 million sales already banked Galaxy S3, does Samsung need to be worried? You’ll just have to wait and see.
