Charlie Adam
Charlie Adam's pretty pleased that he's off to Merseyside.

Liverpool's protracted pursuit of Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam is almost over after the two clubs agreed a fee for the midfielder.

After six months of negotiations the Anfield club have finally met Blackpool's valuation of the Scotland international. The deal is believed to involved Jonjo Shelvey and one other Liverpool player joining Blackpool on a season-long loan.

"Liverpool Football Club today announced they have reached agreement with Blackpool for the transfer of Charlie Adam," a Liverpool statement said.

"The player will now travel to Merseyside for a medical and to discuss personal terms."

Adam becomes Kenny Dalglish's second signing of the summer following the £16m acquisition of Sunderland's Jordan Henderson.

Manchester City this afternoon confirmed the transfer of Montenegro defender Stefan Savic from Partizan Belgrade on a four-year contract.

The 20-year-old becomes City's second signing in three days following the arrival of Gael Clichy from Arsenal.

"I watch the Premier League all the time. I know it's the place to be so I am just looking forward to helping this club achieve great things," he said.

"We have an incredible stadium and I've seen how passionate the City fans are many times on TV. I am just really happy to be a City player."

Meanwhile, Arsenal are poised to confirm their first major signing of the summer, with Lille forward Gervinho set to undergo a medical in north London this afternoon.

The 24-year-old Cote d'Ivore international arrives as part of a £10m deal that Arsene Wenger hopes will persuade the likes of Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie to stay at the Emirates.

However, his arrival will place further doubt over the future of Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner, who has been linked with both Borussia Dortmun and Benfica.

The Gunners also look to have missed out on Velez Sarsfield midfielder Ricardo Alvarez after the club agreed to sell the 23-year-old to Inter Milan.

A statement on Velez's website read: "Velez Sarsfield Athletic Club announces that it has reached an agreement with the authorities of FC Inter Milan for the transfer of our player Ricardo Alvarez."
