A rain delayed start to today's Test match against Pakistan got off to a poor start as captain Andrew Strauss and Alistair Cook was put in to bat by the Pakistani's who won the toss.

A full opening session missed and an early lunch meant play was delayed until 1:40pm.

Worse was to come as Asif clean-bowled Strauss at 31 on a damp pitch that made for difficult batting conditions. A full on bowl, swinging in a little went through the wicket as Strauss could do little to defend.

The potentially crucial toss however left for an interesting start to a match in which Pakistan must win to draw level in the series. And after 12.3 overs, it was still anyone's game with Alistair Cook and Jonathan Trott hoping to last a session as England trailed 39/1.

Rain however, continued to disrupt play after the dismissal leading the covers to be returned to Lord's as light conditions worsened and play is now likely to continue tomorrow.
