A video has been released by Whipsnade Zoo showing the moment that zookeepers surprised their chimpanzees by giving them Christmas presents filled with their favourite snacks.

In the footage released by the zoo, the curious chimps can be seen checking out the colourfully-wrapped presents, before ripping open the packaging to access the yuletide treats, such as fruits and nuts, inside.

Zookeeper Stephen Perry said, "Animals like chimpanzees are really inquisitive by nature and enjoy investigating new things. The chimps have definitely made it onto Santa's nice list this year, and I'm sure they'll love their Christmas treats."

From 19-24 December, visitors to Whipsnade Zoo can prepare their own gifts for the Zoo's chimpanzees at an interactive Elves' Workshop as well as learn all about the Zoo's herd of reindeer at one of the Zoo's special Christmas talks.
