Stiliyan Petrov admits he would happily swap places with any Liverpool player in order to realise his childhood ambition of playing for the club he supported as a young boy.

The aforementioned Aston Villa club captain is a self-confessed Liverpool fan and although he suggests dreams rarely come true in football, he admits he would have loved to have played for Liverpool at some stage during his career.

The Bulgarian international, who has won 105 caps for his country, claims he has been a Liverpool supporter all his life and often used to dream of playing for the Reds at Anfield.

Although the 32-year-old concedes a "dream" move to Liverpool at this juncture in his career is unlikely, the former CSKA Sofia star told the Christmas Issue of Match of the Day Magazine that he would happily swap places with any of Kenny Dalglish's players in order to play for his boyhood club at Anfield.

"I'd swap with any Liverpool player because I'm a Liverpool fan." The Villa Park star told the latest edition of Match of the Day Magazine.

"It'd be great to have that experience. But sometimes dreams don't come true.

"I've been a Liverpool fan since a young boy." The midfielder concluded.

The Christmas issue of Match of the Day Magazine is on sale now, priced at £4.99.
