Daniel Agger has reassured Liverpool that he will not be leaving the club anytime soon, even if it means missing out on Champions League football.

Barcelona were keen to add their Denmark international to their ranks over the summer only for the Reds to reject their bids with Agger himself making it abundantly clear he has no intention of leaving Anfield.

While the 28-year-old's loyalty remained undisputed this summer, questions of how long one of the Premier League's most accomplished centre halves can go without competing in Europe's premier club tournament should Liverpool again miss out on a top four finish remain.

However the Liverpool vice-captain has once again pledged his loyalty to the club, indicating another omission from the Champions League would not change his mind.

"It is clear that Barcelona are a great club, but I never considered leaving Liverpool, unless they sell me," Agger is quoted as saying by Spanish newspaper Sport.

"People, managers and players in the team are an important part of my life. I have YNWA (You'll Never Walk Alone) tattooed on my knuckles. In fact, it does not matter to me whether we are number four or six, I love the club like my family."

Having been snubbed by Thiago Silva, Barcelona made Agger their top priority as they sought to strengthen their defensive options over the summer.

But having failed in their pursuit of the Dane in addition to that of Chelsea's David Luiz, head coach Gerardo Martino insists he is happy with his current options of Gerard Pique, Carlos Puyol, Marc Bartra and Javier Mascherano.

"A new centre back? I am happy with the team I have," the Barcelona coach was quoted as saying by Metro.

"There's always the January transfer window if we need anything. Last year's problems in defence were the result of injuries. We have enough options if everyone is fit."
