Prime Minister David Cameron has admitted he would be 'heartbroken' if Scotland votes to leave the UK in the upcoming independence referendum.

Speaking to an audience in Edinburgh, Cameron said:

"I care hugely about this extraordinary country, this United Kingdom that we have built together and that's what I want to talk about today because I would be heartbroken if this family of nations that we have put together and that we have done such amazing things together if this family of nations was torn apart."

Cameron, along with Labour leader Ed Miliband and Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg, is currently in Scotland making a late bid to Scottish voters to stay within the UK after recent polls revealed the outcome of the referendum is too close to call.
