Deadpool is clearly the flavour of the season. This small, different and R-Rated superhero film managed to make a killing at the box office. After introducing the wider world of film buffs to this rather unusual Marvel comics antihero, the makers are now looking forward to working on the sequel.

When Cinema Blend spoke to the writers – Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick – about whether or not Deadpool 2 would be based on a certain storyline or comic book series, the two elaborated on how their process works:

"It's how we went about the first one, you know? We dove into all of the runs, and then, you know, fell in love with the character and the tone and the texture. Then we set down the comics and came up with our own storyline, and I think we'll do the same for the second one," they said.

While several fans are expecting some sort of crossover/team-up between Deadpool and the X-Men (since all these characters are set in the same cinematic universe by 20th Century Fox), the writers have made it clear that no such thing will happen in the sequel.

"I think there's a real conceptual difference between taking other characters and big things and bringing them into Deadpool's reasonably small, gritty world and the opposite, taking Deadpool and placing him among big ensembles," Reese told Collider.

The entire creative team will return for Deadpool 2 and fans can expect an official release date fairly soon.
