Overview

The Delhi Daredevils begin their seventh IPL campaign hoping to avoid a repeat of their dismal campaign last year.

They began the tournament last year with six straight defeats and managed only three victories from a total of 16 matches, finishing at the bottom of the table with just six points.

For the current campaign, owners GMR Group have made significant changes to their squad. They retained only one of their star players - Kevin Pietersen - by utilsiing their "Right to Match" option and appointed him as captain. The former England international is unfit to feature in the opening game due to a finger injury.

The Daredevils also signed Dinesh Karthik who was part of the victorious Mumbai Indians's squad last year for a significant fee . They have also signed India's World Cup winning coach, Gary Kirsten, on a three-year deal commencing with the seventh IPL season.

Meanwhile, two-time IPL runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained three of their star players - Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and A B de Villiers - prior to the auction.

Yuvraj Singh hogged the headlines becoming the costliest player to be sold in this year's IPL auction.

The left-handed batsman's disappointing innings during India's defeat against Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup Final will certainly act as a catalyst for him to raise his performance for his new team.

Bangalore have a range of batting options in Gayle, Kohli, De Villiers and Yuvraj and should they all click, the Daredevils's bowlers could be in for a long day on the field at Sharjah.
