Overview

Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab started the ninth edition of the IPL with a defeat. The Daredevils lost to two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders, while newcomers Gujarat Lions registered a comfortable victory over David Miller's side.

The Delhi-based franchise is led by former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan and they suffered a massive nine-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in their opening match. The latter managed to achieve the target of 99 runs with six overs to spare.

On the other hand, Kings XI posted a target of 161 runs on the board, but a brilliant batting performance from Aaron Finch (74) and unbeaten knock from Dinesh Karthik (41) helped the Lions beat the Punjab-based franchise. Both teams will be looking for a victory and another crushing defeat on Friday could dent their confidence going forward in the tournament.
