GOP candidate Donald Trump has been mocked on social media, where the hashtag #Donald Trump the movie is trending.

The Republican nominee has come in for some bashing over his hair, his policies and various statements he has made throughout his campaign as Twitter users rushed to add their own Trump spin on a movie title.

One suggested "No Country for Old Men, Mexicans, Women, Minorities, Poor People, War Heroes And Muslims", while another wrote: "American Psycho" (No title change needed lol)".

Trump has come under fire in the last few days after responding to the Muslim family of a fallen soldier who said under Trump's Muslim ban, their son, who died for America, would not have been allowed into the country.

Trump's response, which included defending himself from the Khan family's 'vicious attack' prompted a host of Republicans including senator John McCain to denounce his comments and distance themselves from their own candidate.

In a comment on his Twitter feed, he wrote: "This story is not about Mr. Khan, who is all over the place doing interviews, but rather RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM and the U.S. Get smart!"

The backlash against Trump's comments have been something of a turnaround in fortune for the candidate, who prior to the feud with the Khans had been polling ahead of Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton following his own party's convention in Ohio.
