Jonny Label on Albert Square
Jonny Label will first appear in Eastenders in June of this year BBCOne

The BBC has announced that there will be a fresh face gracing the streets of Walford this summer and he's going to be a member of the Coker family.

Grandson to Les and Pam, EastEnders' newest member Paul Coker is set to be a fun and honest young man who loves to be the centre of attention.

Jonny Labey will star as Paul, transitioning from his career in film and on stage to a role on the small screen. His latest project was London production In The Heights where he played a talented and aspiring graffiti artist. He also starred in Soft Lad, a film about a young man who embarks on a journey of self-discovery when he falls in love with another man.

The network has revealed a little information about Paul's backstory prior to his turning up on his grandparents' doorstep; he is said to have spent two years partying and working abroad as a club rep. So what could be the reasons for his visit to Albert Square and more intriguingly, will there be anything to keep him there?

According to the BBC, his character "quickly sets one particular heart on fire", suggesting that he could be involved in a romantic storyline.

Talking about his new role, an excited Labey said he was "overjoyed to have been given the role of Paul Coker" and is "thrilled to be joining the show at such a prevalent time as it marks its 30th anniversary".

"I know I've got a lot of work to do to live up to the talent I shall be working with, but I have never felt more welcome and cannot wait to get started," he added.

Discussing the new cast member, EastEnders executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins stated: "Jonny's a sensitive, clever and intuitive actor and has fitted in to his new Walford family with ease. We're all looking forward to seeing the trouble that Paul will cause for his grandparents as he uncovers some secrets from the past and sets one heart in particular racing..."

Undertaker Les Coker and his flower-seller wife Pam have been a part of the series since early 2014. Paul's first appearance in EastEnders is scheduled to be sometime in June 2015.
