Ed Sheeran will host the 2015 MTV EMAs Reuters

Ed Sheeran has marked another career milestone after being confirmed as the host of this year's MTV Europe Music Awards. The Thinking Out Loud hit maker is set to take the helm for this year's ceremony with model and actress Ruby Rose.

Taking to social media to celebrate the news, the flame-haired singer-songwriter couldn't hide his excitement. "So happy to say I'm hosting the #MTVEMAs on 25th October! Cannot wait,' the British musician announced to his 15 million Twitter followers.

The impressive gig caps off a stellar 12 months in the British star's career. In February, he performed with Beyoncé at the Stevie Wonder: Songs In The Key Of Life − An All-Star Grammy Salute event and his album X was the biggest and fastest-selling album of 2014.

Rose, who is famed for starring in hit drama Orange Is The New Black, also tweeted the news, telling fans: "So excited to be hosting the MTV EMAS In Milan with Mr @edsheeran !!! See you there!!"

Not only will Sheeran, 24, make his hosting debut at the annual ceremony, he is also nominated in four categories, including Best UK and Ireland Act, Best Male, Best Live Act and Best World Stage.

Meanwhile, his frequent collaborator Taylor Swift leads this year's MTV Europe Music Awards with an impressive nine nominations, including the coveted best song and best video awards. In an interesting twist Calvin Harris's girlfriend will go head-to-head for best female with Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj, who hosted the show in 2014 and famously fell out with Swift on Twitter.

The 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards will take place at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan on 25 October.
