A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a man who was stabbed to death in north London.

Christopher John Barry, 53, was killed on Sunday evening outside his home in a north London block of flats in Edmonton. Post-mortem tests showed he had been stabbed in the chest.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on Wednesday, according to BBC News.

Officers believe there was a "verbal altercation" between the 53-year-old victim, also known as Jack, and a group of boys trying to get into a party in a block of flats.

Four boys aged 13 and 14, who were arrested on suspicion of murdering Barry, were bailed.

Police said Mr Barry - who was with a woman - continued into Brickland Court but was followed by two males and then stabbed.

Detective Chief Inspector Neale Baldock, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, who is heading the investigation, said: "Our initial inquiries have established that there was a supervised party taking place at another address within the block and the group of males were trying to gain access to this.
