Overview

After routing Australia 3-0 in the Investec Ashes test series, England have levelled the ODI series at 1-1. The hosts come into the game on the back of a three wicket victory over the Aussies and shall go into the final ODI with a viable chance of putting their dominance beyond doubt this tour.

The hosts decided to field first after winning the toss. Australia were bowled out for 227 after their top order failed to fire with the bat. George Bailey's knock of 80 followed by Adam Voges and Mathew Wade's contribution in the middle saw the visitors post a decent total on the board.

The result was decided in the final over of the game as England won the tie with three balls to spare. Michael Carberry was the only top order batsmen to shine as the opener was bowled for 63. Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Joe Root fell in quick succession, allowing Eoin Morgan to help Carberry rescue his side.

England's skipper played a match winning knock of 53 and was well accompanied by Jos Buttler. The latter remained unbeaten till the end and managed an impressive 65 runs from only 48 balls. The ODI has all the makings of a classic with Australia looking to salvage some pride after what has been a disastrous tour for men in yellow.
