Enrique Iglesias has always maintained that love cannot be validated with a marriage licence. But, now, the Bailamos hit-maker has dropped a cryptic hint that he and his long time girlfriend Anna Kournikova may have already tied the knot.

"I don't believe you need a piece of paper to show you love someone," the 41-year-old singer told E! News. But when asked if he had any plans to wed, he said, "Who knows what the future holds...or the past...haha."

The singer's mysterious hint comes after the former tennis sensation shared a video on Instagram, wherein she can be seen flashing a diamond ring on her wedding finger. Later, the 35-year-old also posted their first Instagram photo together. The photo shows the couple with Kournikova's brother Alan.

However, this is not the first time when Iglesias has spoken about marriage. In 2012, he opened up about what he thinks about it to Parade magazine.

"I've never really thought marriage would make a difference. Maybe it's because I come from divorced parents, but I don't think you love someone more because of a piece of paper," he said. "And nowadays, it's not taboo to have kids and not be married. What makes a difference is that you're a good parent, period."

In 2014, Iglesias told CBS Sunday Morning (via E! News), "But when you've been with someone for such a long time, I don't think it's [marriage is] going to make – bring us closer together. I don't think it's going to, it's going to make us any happier."

But after he made the comments, the singer said: "We are extremely happy the way we are. I'm not against marriage by any means. I have not ruled it out, but if you're happy, I don't think [marriage] will really make a difference.'

The couple have been dating since meeting on the set of the singer's Escape music video in 2001.
