Wales have got off to a poor start to their Euro qualifiers after losing to Montenegro 1-0.

The Montenegrans made a good start with Elsad Zverotic and Radomir Djalovic launching their own attacks on the Welsh goal, but to no avail.

However Wales proved that they were no pushovers with Gareth Bale and Craig Bellamy both tearing into the home side's defence. Bale seemed to spook the Montenegro defenders a little and was brought down from behind by Savo Pavicevic, who was booked.

Montenegro were looking increasingly dangerous when Mirko Vucinic headed a cross from Pavicevic just a few yards wide of the Welsh goal. Seven minutes later Vucinic struck again, ramming a shot low into the Welsh net, putting Montenegro up 1-0.

Wales were not downhearted however with Bale and Bellamy continuing their assault on the Montenegro goal, coming very close to an equaliser just before half time.

When play resumed Vucinic continued to put pressure on Wales, curling a free-kick just over the Welsh crossbar. Barry attempted a similar trick shortly afterwards but unfortunately had similar results.

Wales defender James Collins was taken off the field after being elbowed in the head by Miodrag Dzudovic.

Despite this setback Bellamy continued taking shot after shot at the Montenegro goal, but each time to no avail. Simon Church also came startlingly close with a header that just bounced off the bar.

However at the final whistle, neither Bellamy, Bale or Church had been able to break through and Wales had lost 1-0 to one of the weakest sides in their group.
