Scotland's slim hopes of reaching the play-offs have been dealt a cruel blow as two David Silva goals saw Craig Levein's side go in at the break 2-0 down.

A disastrous start by Scotland saw them concede after just six minutes when Silva converted Santi-Cazorla's low cross and Spain looked like running away with the tie as Scotland struggled to get a touch of the ball in the opening twenty minutes.

But the Tartan Army slowly grew in confidence with Darren Fletcher and Charlie Adam controlling the midfield and Craig Mickail-Smith troubling Gerard Pique in the Spain back-line.

However, Scotland's slim hopes of finishing second were dealt a double blow just before half-time. As news filtered through that the Czech Republic were 2-0 up in Lithuania, David Silva cut inside on the right-wing and fizzed a low diagonal drive into the bottom left-hand corner.
