Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton took pole for the 2014 Italian Grand Prix after beating his teammates Nico Rosberg for the first spot at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

Qualifying Review

Rosberg managed to finish Friday's session on top. However, the championship leader was stopped from replicating his Free Practice 2 form during the qualifying of the Italian Grand Prix as he fell short by 0.274s.

Hamilton was the fastest during the qualifying as the British driver clocked a time of 1:24.109s to take pole at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. His Mercedes teammate will start Sunday's race behind him in the second spot.

Williams fought hard in Saturday's final session as their drivers Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa finished third and fourth respectively. Kevin Magnussen will start the race from fifth while his McLaren teammate Jenson Button was sixth with a time of 1:25.379s.

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso dropped down after finishing among the top five on Friday as the Spaniard was seventh. Meanwhile, defending champion Sebastian Vettel continued his poor form this season as he finished qualifying as the eighth fastest driver.
