It is the same story as Japan, as the Mercedes cars dominated the first and second practice sessions, but there is a new entrant to the 'best of the rest' pack.

The McLaren team showed some speed on Friday and could be in the mix for a podium spot, along with Ferrari, Williams and Red Bull Racing.

The drivers seemed to have enjoyed their first drive on the new Sochi circuit, but the results are the same with the Mercedes duo again leading the way during FP1 and FP2.

However, this time it was not the Williams or Red Bulls that were leading the rest of the field but McLaren, who were closest to the Mercedes pair.

It was Jenson Button during FP1 and then Magnussen finished second in FP2. Following the McLaren were Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Valteri Bottas of Williams. Nico Rosberg was unable to get a clean lap and hence had to settle for fifth place.

The top Red Bull car was Sebastian Vettel, but he was down in ninth place. The German thinks this track is not suited to the Red Bull and expects to have a difficult weekend.
