Angry Birds and Facebook have topped the charts as the most popular iPhone applications of all time among UK users, according to data published by Apple.

Facebook was the most popular free application, while Angry Birds scooped the prize for the most popular paid-for app. The results came as Apple celebrates its 25 billionth application download from the AppStore.

In the iPad rankings Apple's own Pages application was the most popular paid-for app, while the BBC's iPlayer was the most popular free iPad app among UK AppStore customers.

Earlier this week, Apple gave away a $10,000 iTunes gift card to a lucky Chinese user who downloaded the 25 billionth application, which was a puzzle game called 'Where's My Water?'.

The top five most popular pay-for apps in the UK included WhatsApp Messenger, Doodle Jump, Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds Seasons, as well as the original Angry Birds.
