Dramatic photos show a family being rescued from their burning car during anti-World Cup protests in Sao Paulo. The demonstrations in Brazil's biggest city turned violent as anarchists railed against the cost of staging the football tournament.

Demonstrators attacked an empty police car and smashed the windows of banks. Police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets, dispersing the crowd. More than 100 people were detained.
