Luke King jailed for 12 weeks over 'revenge porn' offence Reuters

A father has become the first person to be jailed for "revenge porn" after putting up a nude photo of his former girlfriend online.

Luke King used the messaging service WhatsApp to post the explicit photo.

The woman from Derbyshire told police she was "disgusted" and "upset" by the act.

She contacted police when he initially threatened to post the images and he was warned not to do it.

King, 21, of Calcroft Close, Aspley, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to harassment and was jailed for 12 weeks at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.

District Judge Andrew Davison said: "The probation officer calls it pernicious and intended to cause maximum humiliation.

"I can't better those words. You should be thoroughly ashamed of this offence. I regard this as despicable and a significant breach of trust."

King was prosecuted under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997, but people distributing revenge porn images and videos could face two years in jail under a new law which was brought in last month.

He was also issued with a restraining order banning him from contacting the woman for two years.
