Fear the Walking Dead season 2
Chris is losing the balance to differentiate the living from the dead AMC

The mid-season finale of Fear The Walking Dead season 2 ended on a different note, where Travis preferred to chose his son over his girlfriend Madison. Nick, on the other hand, chose not to accompany his family and move to Abigail and chose to stay with Celia (who is now dead), his new-found bond.

Daniel, who was constantly struggling with his past, finally confronted his illusion and torched the room where Celia's men kept him captive. The scene implied that ‎Rubén Blades's character was charred to death in the inferno. But the show's executive producer Gale Anne Hurd has teased that there is still some hope for Daniel as nobody saw him die.

"You don't see Daniel die, so I wouldn't assume that he's gone forever. However, the perception certainly among our characters on the show is that he's gone. So, you know, we'll see how that plays out," she told Deadline about the possibilities of the character being alive.

The group that started their journey from Los Angeles is now scattered as Travis decided to nurse his son who is suffering from a fragile mental situation. Strand, Madison, Alicia and Ofelia plan to escape to the yacht, but Nick, who was amused by Celia's theories in the apocalyptic world, refuses to accompany them.

"Chris and Travis are blood. Travis feels really responsible for Chris, she told the website and added that as a dutiful father he will make sure his son is alright. As you saw in the midseason finale, he's not going to just let him go. He will do anything to save him," she said.

In a separate interview with EW, showrunner Dave Erickson teased Nick's future among the dead walkers in the second half of the season.

"We've defined a woman who does have a darker side, is willing to go there if necessary, and is also very good about compartmentalizing the things that she's done and the things that she's seen. In the first half of the season, we see a woman who starts to become very apprehensive about Nick and the direction he's going in, and his seeming fascination, if not addiction, to the apocalypse and to the dead," Erickson said.

AMC has still not confirmed the return date for Fear TWD season 2 mid-season premiere.
