Samsung is reportedly planning a Jelly Bean software upgrade for the Galaxy Ace 2 which was first shipped with the Android Gingerbread software version.

According to a couple of screenshots of a pre-release firmware for the Galaxy Ace 2 carrying model number GT-I8160, which were first obtained and published by Sammobile, the handset is expected to receive the Jelly Bean update.

The Jelly Bean software version, as noted on the leaked photo, is Android 4.1.2 with base firmware XXMB2 which is a build from JZOK54K (Android 4.1.2).

The latest disclosure also claims that the Galaxy Ace 2 has been scheduled to receive the update sometime around March or April.

The Galaxy Ace 2 features a 3.8in PLS TFT display with a resolution measuring 480 x 800 pixels and pixels density at 246 pixels per inch (ppi).

It is powered by NovaThor U8500 chip featuring a dual-core processor, with each core running at clock speeds up to 800MHz and paired with Mali-400 graphics unit. The handset has 768MB of RAM. It has a five megapixel rear camera and a VGA-quality front camera. The handset offers 3G network speeds and is Near Filed Communication (NFC) enabled.

This photo leak has been followed by the Jelly Bean rollout for the Galaxy S2. Samsung first released the Android 4.1.2 firmware for the Galaxy S2 with model number I9100 and recently an update has been released for the I9100G version of the handset. The upgrade brings a number of features including new user interface (UI), TouchWiz Nature UX, improved camera function, new Lockscreen, Direct Call, Smart Stay, Pop-up Play, new Widgets, new notification bar and Google Now.

The other mid-range smartphones, like the Galaxy Ace 2, to receive the upgrade are said to be the Galaxy Chat, the Galaxy Beam, the Galaxy Ace Plus, the Galaxy Mini 2 and the Galaxy S Duos. Besides, these devices will get the TouchWiz Nature UX interface.
