Google's third generation Nexus branded smartphone, Galaxy Nexus, was first to adopt Android Ice Cream Sandwich software. The device was recently upgraded with the latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2. Currently it is running on Android 4.2.1.

The Galaxy Nexus users who have already rooted their devices in order to install custom ROMs and have lost the warranty of the devices, can now return to the stock firmware and get the manufacturer's warranty back. Thanks to senior XDA developer, techfanatic9, who has released an unroot guide enabling users to 'unroot their Galaxy Nexus to 100 per cent stock and unroot 4.1.2.' Galaxy Nexus users, who wish to unroot their devices and install Android 4.1.2 stock firmware, may follow the step-by-step instruction guide below. IBTimes UK reminds its readers that it will not be held liable for any damage to the device; therefore proceed at your own risk.

Pre-requisites

1) Install the Android Software Development Kit and set up Android Debug Bridge on the computer.

2) Create back-up for all the data of the phone.

3) The battery of Galaxy Nexus should have above 80 per cent of charge.

4) Users are advised to check the model number of their phones, since the unroot tutorial below as well as the unroot package used in the tutorial below are compatible only with Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250. Flashing this on any other variant, may brick the device.

Steps to unroot/install Android 4.1.2 Galaxy Nexus I9250

1) Download Galaxy Nexus GSM unroot to stock 4.1.2 package to the computer. Extract the downloaded zip file and save the files in the same folder as the Fastboot files (For example: C:WindowsProgramme FilesAndroid SDKPlatform Tools)

2) Switch off the phone

3) Boot the phone into Fastboot Mode by holding the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons until the phones' screen turns on

4) Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable

5) Now on the computer, open a command prompt with Administrator's privileges. At the command prompt, navigate to the directory or folder where Fastboot binary and extracted zip files are saved

6) Verify that the computer recognises the phone. The phone's serial number should appear on the command prompt window after the below mentioned command is being entered

7) Now enter the commands in the order mentioned

a) fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-maguro-prime1c03.img

b) fastboot reboot-bootloader

c) fastboot flash radio radio-maguro-i9250xx1f1.img

d) fastboot reboot-bootloader

e) fastboot -w update image-yakju-jzo54k.zip

8) The phone will reboot and users will be greeted by their devices' setup wizard

9) To proceed with relocking the phone's bootloader, continue with the following steps

10) Power off the phone. Enter into Fastboot Mode holding the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons together until the screen turns on

11) Connect the phone to the computer using USB cable. Now on the computer open a command prompt with Administrator's privileges

12) At the command prompt, navigate to the directory/folder where the Fastboot binary and extracted zip files have been saved

13) Ensure that the computer identifies the phone. The device's serial number should appear on the command prompt window after below command is being typed

fastboot devices

14) Now type the following command to relock the phone's bootloader

fastboot oem lock

Congratulations, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250 is now unrooted successfully with the bootloader being relocked.
