Much to the delight of Galaxy Note 2 N7100 users, Samsung has started rolling out the XXALIJ based Official (Vodafone) Jelly Bean update through Samsung KIES across Europe and other countries. Users who missed the Android 4.1.1 update for their Note 2 devices can now manually download and install the XXALIJ firmware using this guide.

The XXALIJ based Android 4.1.1 firmware can be installed using ODIN. You need not root the device or install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery on it to support the firmware installation, which is one hitch less to bother about. If you are on a rooted device, you will lose root access to the device after the firmware installation. So, you have to root the device again to regain full system access and be able to install third-party root-based apps (steps provided later in the guide).

Key Points to Note

  • The XXALIJ based Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean firmware supports the following countries: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and United Kingdom.
  • The XXALIJ ROM and the instructions given in this guide are applicable only to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 model and will not work on any other device. Verify your device's model number by navigating to Settings > About phone.
  • Ensure that the correct USB drivers are installed on your Galaxy Note 2 to enable connectivity with the computer. Download Samsung Galaxy Note 2 drivers.
  • Enable USB debugging mode by navigating to Settings > Applications > Development and check the USB debugging option. This feature helps in connecting your Android phone with the computer.
  • Make sure that your phone's battery is at least 85 percent charged to prevent unexpected device shutdown (due to battery drain) while flashing the XXALIJ firmware.
  • IBTimes UK advises users to backup apps, important personal data and settings to avoid data loss while installing the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update.
  • Ensure that your phone is factory unlocked before proceeding with the XXALIJ firmware installation.
  • The instructions provided in this guide are meant for reference purpose only and do not cover any warranty claims involving device damage or issues arising out of using this firmware update. Users are cautioned to proceed at their own risk.
