Samsung Galaxy S8
There is no need to go through an editor to customise your screenshots on the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus IBTimes UK

Taking screenshots on a Samsung phone has been standard practice for the past few years. Users of the Galaxy Note series enjoyed the ability to capture random sections of content on the screen in different shapes and sizes known as Smart Select.

This feature has been added to the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+. Users with the help of the Smart Select Edge panel can take custom screenshots in either rectangular or oval form. Smart Select also lets users pin images on top of the screen. One can even directly copy text automatically from the captured images for sharing it

How to take custom screenshot

  • Enable Smart Select Edge panel by going to Settings >Display > Edge screen > Edge panels
  • Make sure the Edge panels toggle is turned to on
  • Go to your destination app or screen that you want to capture a screenshot of
  • Now drag in the Edge panel from the edge of the display and scroll to the Smart Select panel
  • Four options for screenshots will appear - Rectangle, Oval, Animation and Pin to top
  • Select the option you want
  • For instance, the most commonly used screenshots are rectangle ones; so select that option and you will be given control of how much of the screen you want to capture, similar to cropping a photo
  • Without visiting a photo editor you can directly increase or decrease the size of the desired screenshot by dragging it from either of the corners
  • Once selected hit the done button
  • You can now share the same and even further edit it by clicking on the draw button
  • In case you select the Pin to top option, your screenshot will always appear on top of the screen no matter what app you use
