Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on official Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5 Jelly Bean firmware.

Galaxy Note 2 N7100 users in the Middle East recently received the latest official Jelly Bean firmware, Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5, with Arabic language support from Samsung. Those who have already installed the official firmware either through Samsung KIES or Over-The-Air (OTA) update or manually using our step-by-step installation guide can now root their device by following the tutorial below.

NOTE: Although the rooting method used in this guide makes use of ODIN flash tool for installing root access, it will also install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery with it. Hence, a separate installation of any custom recovery tool is not required.

Key Points to Note

  • The root package and the instructions given in this guide are applicable to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 model only. Verify that the device is already running Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5 official firmware before proceeding with root installation.
  • Back up important data and settings on the phone. It is recommended that you backup data using one of the popular custom recovery tools such as ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP and avoid using Samsung KIES or ROM manager, as they lack flexible backup options.
  • Ensure that the device has at least 85 percent battery charge before proceeding with the root installation.
  • Verify that the correct USB drivers are installed for your phone on the computer (download Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 USB drivers)
  • Make sure that USB Debugging mode is enabled on the phone by navigating to Settings > Developer Options (if the device is running Android 4.0 or later) or go to Settings > Applications > Development (if the phone is running Android 2.3 or earlier). Otherwise if the device is running Android 4.2 onboard, then do the following steps:
    • Go to Settings > About Phone
    • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select Build Number
    • Tap the Build Number seven times to unlock or reveal the hidden Developer Options under Settings. Then select the checkbox to enable USB Debugging mode under Settings > Developer Options.
  • Verify that the device is factory unlocked and rooted with CWM recovery installed on it.
  • The instructions provided in this guide are meant for reference purpose only and do not support any warranty claims involving device damage. Users must proceed at their own risk.
