Galaxy Note 2 N7100 users in the Middle East recently received the latest official Jelly Bean firmware, Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5, with Arabic language support from Samsung. Those who have already installed the official firmware either through Samsung KIES or Over-The-Air (OTA) update or manually using our step-by-step installation guide can now root their device by following the tutorial below.

NOTE: Although the rooting method used in this guide makes use of ODIN flash tool for installing root access, it will also install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery with it. Hence, a separate installation of any custom recovery tool is not required.

  • The root package and the instructions given in this guide are applicable to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 model only. Verify that the device is already running Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5 official firmware before proceeding with root installation.
  • Back up important data and settings on the phone. It is recommended that you backup data using one of the popular custom recovery tools such as ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP and avoid using Samsung KIES or ROM manager, as they lack flexible backup options.

How to Root Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on Official Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5 Jelly Bean Firmware

Step 1 - Download Android 4.1.2 CWM recovery + Rooting Package for Galaxy Note 2 N7100 on the computer.

Step 2 - Download ODIN v1.85 which is needed to root Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5 official firmware on the phone.

Step 3 - Turn off the phone and boot it into Download Mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down and Home buttons together, and then tap the Power button, until the Samsung logo or the red and yellow text appears on the screen.

Step 4 - Launch ODIN on computer and connect the phone to it in Download Mode.

Step 6 - If the phone connects successfully, one of the ID:COM boxes indicates yellow with the corresponding COM port number. This step may be time-consuming. So, do not interrupt the process.

Step 7 - Choose the files that need to be flashed or installed on the phone, which can be found among the extracted files in Step 1.

  • Click the 'PDA' button and choose the file "cwm6-root-note2.tar".

Step 8 - In ODIN, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options.

Step 9 - Hit Start button in ODIN and the root installation process will begin. It might take just a few minutes to complete.

Step 10 - Once the firmware installation is done, the phone will reboot. When the home screen appears, disconnect the phone from computer.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is now rooted on Android 4.1.2 XXDMB5 official firmware. Check for the Superuser app in the apps list to confirm the installation.
