Game of Thrones Season 5
Game of Thrones season 5 premieres on 12 April Facebook/HBO

First, Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner (who plays Sansa Stark) teased that the upcoming season 5 will have moments that'll be "even more shocking than the Red Wedding," and now author George R R Martin has confirmed shocking and unexpected deaths in the new season.

Those who've read George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire book series are usually ahead of the game with what deaths to expect. However, Martin revealed at the Writers Guild of America Awards on Saturday (15 February) that all fans are in for big surprises in GoT season 5, reports The Huffington Post.

"People are going to die who don't die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-creators of 'Game of Thrones) are even bloodier than I am," said Martin. (via Showbiz 411)

Looks like fans need to be ready for anything. The series is notorious for killing off central characters and now with fan favourites like Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa and Arya Stark having made it to the fifth season, it's not unwarranted to assume that for one (or more) of them, this just might be the last season.

Game Of Thrones season 5 is slated to air on 12 April, 2015.
